Bohemian Waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus)
Comments: Close relatives of the more widespread Cedar Waxwing, Bohemian Waxwings are highly nomadic birds of northwestern North America. They spend their summers in northwestern Canada and Alaska, but often wander far south and east in their endless search for berries. They are very unpredictable visitors to the eastern U.S. Compared to the Cedar Waxwing, the Bohemian is larger and grayer, and has distinctive rufous undertail coverts. It has white and yellow markings on the wings and a distinctive vocalization. These birds were photographed in Kanata, Ontario in February 2005.
