Neotropic Cormorant (Phalacrocorax brasilianus)

Comments:  Quite a distant shot, but this one is certainly worth showing here. The much smaller cormorant on the left is Maryland's first confirmed record of Neotropic Cormorant. The species is a year-round resident throughout most of South and Central America, reaching its northern limit line around the U.S.-Mexico border. It can be seen reliably in southern Texas, especially along the Gulf Coast, but usually not so much on the Potomac River. Kudos to Dave Czaplak for finding and identifying this one! Photographed near Violette's Lock on the Potomac River, Montgomery Co., Maryland (10/30/2005).
