This attractive sparrow is a very common winter resident throughout the Mid-Atlantic. It can be found in almost any scrubby or wooded edge habitat, usually foraging on the ground in small flocks. It's distinctive song is often put to the mnemonic, "Poor Sam Peabody, Peabody, Peabody." It's main call note is a high-pitched tseet.
